SP462691 - Hensborough Hill - 113m

We're all very pleased to present the first trig point contribution from the Midlands Branch.  Take it away Polar ...

Who am I? Do you need to ask? I'm Polar of the Midlands Branch. Hopefully mine is a familiar face by now, as I've appeared on the main blog quite a bit recently, and I've also had my biography done on Bears Unlimited biographies.

Where am I? I returned to the Midlands Bear Cave after Christmas, following my extended stay with the Norfolk Branch. This does suggest I might be in the Midlands, and indeed that is exactly where I am. More precisely, I am sitting on the Hensborough Hill trig point, which is on the edge of the large reservoir of Draycote Water, not far from Rugby where I live.

When and Why was I there? I don't like to let the grass grow under my paws, so it was a case of no sooner visited than posted. Yes, I was there today, January 30th 2011, even if it does look more like I was there on a summer's day than the middle of winter. The sunshine and blue skies are actually deceptive and I can confirm that it was very cold out. This is one of the reasons I was selected for the photo. It was because, being a heatable beanie bear, I was able to leap in the microwave and get very warm before venturing outdoors. This not only kept me warm, but also the party I was out and about with. It was Suffolk and Midlands Branch minders that I was accompanying: the former had come to visit the latter for the weekend and we all felt like some fresh air after lunch, so selected the 5 mile circuit of the reservoir for an afternoon walk.

I thought I'd go for a first on this blog and include a close up shot of the technical detail of the trig point. It was certainly a well looked after trig point and rather whiter than the 2 visited by the Norfolk Branch.

P.S. who's going to be next?

SK463359 - The Nook, Risley (80m)

We're back with trig point number 2.

Who are we? well, it's the same as last time, the indomitable Norfolk Branch trio of George, Yorkie and Rocco.

Where are we? We're just down the road from our first trig point, and we'd travelled between the two on foot. We'd returned to Risley, where we'd left the Bearmobile, and taken a footpath along to the Nook, where we found this trig point at the edge of a field tucked amongst some scrubby trees.

When and why were we there? It was December 29th 2010 again, but later in the day to the previous posting, hence the slightly more eerie feel to the pictures as light began to fade and the fog swirled. We were at the end of day 1 of our 2 day Derbyshire walking break. This trig point was decidedly neglected and we wished we'd had some loppers to cut back the branches, as well as a can of white paint. We were pleased to have found it though.

Our first Trig Point - SK458373 - No Man's Lane, Sandiacre

It gives us great pleasure to open our new blog and to be the first bears to appear on a trig point.

Who are we? we are George & Yorkie (travelling bears from the Norfolk Branch of Bears Unlimited) and we are with our equally vertically challenged friend Rocco.

Where are we? we are in Derbyshire at the No Man's Lane trig point near Sandiacre (we'd walked here from the village of Stanton by Dale).

When and why were we there? we visited this trig point on December 29th 2010. We were having a 2 day post Christmas break walking in Derbyshire.  The weather was foggy at the time which explains our rather grey look.
